Pre-order Hollowbone!

To receive your copy of The Darkening’s “Hollowbone” before it’s official release date (5th April) pre-order now from The Shop (where you can listen to a few tracks too). A review in the current fRoots magazine muses: “Well now… you’d imagine Kathryn Tickell had done it all in her long, illustrious career as Britain’s foremost Northumbrian piper… Ancient and modern, weird and wonderful rub shoulders throughout the entire album in constantly unexpected fashion; but Tickell’s dancing pipes are never far from the action to pull it all back when it threatens to get too dark and mystical… it lifts the heart and sets the pulses racing with rich fervour.” Colin Irwin, fRoots.

Tales & Tunes and The Dam

If you’re lucky enough to see one of the few “Tales & Tunes” shows this autumn you’ll hear the goosebump-inducing story of Kathryn and her dad exploring an abandoned village, prior to the building of the Kielder Dam. Kathryn was encouraged to play tunes in the old cottages – the last time music would be heard within those walls. This tale was the inspiration for “The Dam”, a newly-published picture book by David Almond, with beautiful illustrations by Levi Pinfold.
