Twitter competition!

If you are on Twitter you’ve still got time to enter our free ‘Goodybag Giveaway’. All you have to do is to use the hashtag #NewKTCD somewhere in your tweet & we’ll pick a winner and post the goodybag out first thing on Friday 26th September. There are some lovely things in there, all made in Northumberland… beautiful handmade soap from Oakwood Soaperie, a 2015 calendar and a pack of greetings cards from Kathryn’s near-neighbour, renowned Northumbrian artist Mary Ann Rogers, some ‘coal’ from Kenspeckle Chocolates (okay, it’s not real coal — it’s cinder toffee, coated in black powdered sugar, and it’s delicious!) as well as the new CD and a KT & The Side tote bag.(We did intend to do this earlier in the month, but Kathryn ate the cinder toffee and we had to get some more!)

New album announced!

The keenly anticipated album from Kathryn Tickell & The Side will be released on 29th September. We’ve been going a bit mad, sitting on our hands, not being able to “officially” talk about it! The CDs are here now, sitting patiently waiting to be mailed. They look fabulous with some beautiful photography. You can LISTEN to some tracks and pre-order here. Read more from Kathryn:

“Yes —  at long last we have the new album from the new band…ALL VERY EXCITING!! We’ve been working on it for a while… Those of you who have been to see us over the last 18 months (thank you all!) will have an idea what to expect, the rest of you may not… but there are some tracks on the album that we have never played live yet so there are still some surprises in store for you!

“There are a few special guests on the album; we were really delighted that the leader of Royal Northern Sinfonia, violinist extraordinaire Bradley Creswick, was able to join us for a couple of tracks. I’m also pretty chuffed that my friend Dominic Miller (Sting’s long-time guitarist) found the time to add some tasty touches of guitar to a few tunes. Also appearing are Marney O’Sullivan (another of Louisa’s Royal Northern Sinfonia colleagues) on percussion, Rosie Calvert on steel pan (just on one track…but I love the sound and was determined to get it on the album somewhere!) and there are also a couple of double bass notes here and there from Ian Stephenson.

Mostly though, it’s just us: Louisa, Ruth, Amy and myself.…we hope you like it!

Cheers,
Kathryn x

p.s. .…and there’s even a song (eek!)”

Sidmouth Folk Week memories

On Folk Radio UK, a lovely interview with Kathryn about her memories of Sidmouth Folk Week from the age of 15: culture shock, Morris dancers, a shooting star! Kathryn & The Side are at Sidmouth Folk Week on 7th August.

5 October venue change

Please note that the Matlock Bath concert scheduled for 5th October has been cancelled by the promoter. We believe that the venue is giving refunds. The Side instead stay in the south west and play Tavistock Wharf on 5th October.
